Well, where to start? Willie Evans has spent over 27 years in social work - 14 in residential care, 9 in adoption & fostering and the last 4 in early years services. Okay, so that's the humdrum, daytime hours, pay-yer-mortgage slice of his life...
Outside the day job, life suddenly becomes a good deal more creative. Songwriting, photography, band management, photography, record production, photography, live DJ work / radio presenting and photography fill the hours from 5-to-9 with some sleep thrown in for good measure. Not much sleep, mind you, but it does figure in there somewhere. Willie read somewhere that 85% of people die in bed, so he stays outta that place for as long as possible!
Willie managed top Scots country band Evangeline for over four years until its demise in January 2006. During that time he led the band from obscurity to playing Nashville's Bluebird Cafe, from a budget 3-track demo EP to producing two albums of original material, from a backstreet rehearsal studio to the stage of the UK's biggest Americana festival, from a musical wilderness to two UK chart-topping singles and worldwide radio airplay and CD sales. Besides being Evangeline's manager, roadie, driver, sound engineer, financier and agony aunt, Willie contributed in a major way to the distinctive EV sound by being one of the band's songwriters. Along with John Naismith, he wrote 27 of the 31 tracks Evangeline pressed to CD and many others which didn't make the cut. You're listening to one of those songs right now, "Pictures Of You", from Evangeline's Hard Way album.
Alongside a busy schedule with Evangeline, Willie recorded and produced an album for Scottish folk band Piggery Brae which has met with international radio play and sales.
Besides all this real muso stuff, Willie is a vastly experienced DJ, having done many stints on radio (River FM, Neon Country Radio, Real Radio) in addition to live work which sees him DJ at most of Scotland's country music festivals. Willie is passionate about country music and he entertains regularly at corporate events.
As if all that wasn't enough, did I mention that his other huge passion is photography? Willie Evans loves making pictures and is a member of the Society of Wedding and Portrait Photographers and the British Professional Photographers Institute.
